Well, it doesn't have to do with politics.
For example, some denomination uses a piece of white linen cloth to cover the communion bread. The original idea was to keep out flying insects. But it stays there now because it is bearing the symbol of being the fair white linen clothes the body of Christ will be awarded in the day of the Lord.
